About Mayan

Founded 2016

Mayan Studio is a Saudi art ecosystem, founded in 2016 in Madinah by the artists Abeer and Marya Mayan.

Mayan is built on a conviction: that art is a professional practice with its own foundations and standards — built through systematic training, carried out in a properly equipped environment, and measured by the quality of the work it produces.

Over ten years the studio has grown from a teaching space into a complete art ecosystem, bringing education, production, consultancy and supply under one roof, and serving the practitioner at every stage of their path.

Vision & mission

Vision

For Mayan to become a cultural institution the Saudi art scene can rely on — connecting the cultural depth of Madinah with contemporary artistic practice, and giving the Saudi artist a place to begin from and to continue in.

Mission

We build the artist from the foundations to professional practice, through curricula designed inside the studio, a working environment held to professional standards, selected materials and tools, and support that runs from the first lesson to the work that carries their name.

Our values

Authenticity

We build from the cultural root we stand on, and we work in our own language and context.

Impact

We commit to every participant leaving with a skill they can practise and a piece that carries their name, and we measure our work by what they go on to do after the programme ends.

Environment

The place is part of the work; the quality of a space shows in the quality of what is made in it.

Our goals

  1. Build the artist through a curriculum

Designing progressive learning paths that carry the participant from the fundamentals to independent practice, with defined outcomes at each stage and a skill they can repeat and build on.

  2. Provide a production environment to professional standards

Equipping a complete workspace that lets the artist realise their work inside the studio, with the tools, kilns, materials and specialist supervision the craft demands.

  3. Raise professional awareness of the art market

Enabling the artist to understand the value of their work, to price it and to present it, and to build their professional path on clear foundations.

  4. Widen the base of artistic practice

Opening art to children, families and beginners, and turning passing interest into sustained practice.

  5. Serve organisations with art and cultural programmes

Developing artistic experiences and programmes for companies, schools, and cultural and tourism bodies, built around what each one needs.

  6. Strengthen the Saudi art scene

Establishing Madinah as a centre for contemporary artistic practice, building partnerships that reach Riyadh and the rest of the regions, and opening the opportunities that carry the Saudi artist to a wider professional presence.

What Mayan offers

Art education

Progressive programmes and workshops, beginning with foundation programmes that start the participant from the fundamentals, and extending to development programmes that carry them to independent practice with a visual language of their own.

They cover drawing and painting, pottery and ceramics, mixed media, children’s programmes and seasonal programmes.

Every programme has a written curriculum, a known duration, clear outcomes, tools and materials included, and specialist supervision throughout.

Producing artworks

Mayan produces the work of the artists Abeer and Marya Mayan and makes it available for collection, through direct sale and through exhibitions and art platforms.

It also delivers commissioned work for individuals, companies and institutions — pieces designed and produced for the context of the space, the identity of the client and the requirements of the project.

This path also includes developing artistic practice with artists: accompanying the artist in building their project, reviewing and developing their work, and preparing it for exhibition and collection.

Art & cultural consultancy

A service for the artist, the collector and the institution, covering the pricing of artworks, building the artist’s professional path, developing artistic content and programmes for institutions, and advising on the building of art collections.

It extends to building cultural strategies and business plans that tie cultural value to economic viability, so that investing in art becomes a considered decision with a clear return and a measurable path.

The art supplies store

Materials and tools selected on the basis of the result they produce in the finished work, available to studio members and to practitioners generally.

It carries acrylic, oil and watercolour paints, drawing and modelling tools, pottery clays and glazes, surfaces, easels and studio equipment.
